What Does an Electrical Safety Inspection Include?
An electrical safety inspection is a full review of your home's electrical system by a licensed electrician. The work falls into four groups:
- Power and distribution — the panel, breaker sizing, grounding, bonding, and available capacity
- Interior devices — outlets, switches, fixtures, and GFCI and AFCI protection throughout the home
- Accessible wiring — attic, garage, and crawl space runs, plus junction boxes and splices
- Systems beyond the walls — exterior outlets, landscape lighting circuits, and equipment on its own feed
We also check smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for placement, age, and function. Most visits take one to three hours. You receive a written report ranking every finding.
Those four groups set the order of the visit. We work through them the same way on every property, so nothing gets left out.

Power and Distribution: The Panel and Everything Feeding It
Power reaches your property at one point and spreads out from there. We start at the service equipment and work inward. What we find here sets the limits for everything else.

At each outlet and switch, we look for:
- Loose fittings that let plugs slip out
- Scorch marks or browning around the plate
- Reversed polarity, where hot and neutral are swapped
- Warmth at the cover, which points to a bad connection
GFCI protection gets tested anywhere water is close by. That covers kitchens, bathrooms, laundry areas, garages, and outdoor outlets. We press the test button on each device and confirm the power cuts.
AFCI protection covers your living spaces. These breakers watch for arcing inside walls, the kind that starts fires. We note which circuits have that protection and which do not.
