According to the weatherman, North Texas is going to be hot in the next few days. Very Hot. Feels like you’re melting hot. Thanks to D Magazine, we now have some very tasty options to cool off.
10 Places to Cool Down with Ice Cream in Dallas this Summer

As temperatures creep into the triple digits, there is no denying that the infamous Texas heat has finally reached Dallas. Luckily, July is National Ice Cream Month, providing us with a perfect excuse to enjoy this delicious cold treat. Here is a list we compiled of places to help you beat the scorching Dallas heat.
Cow Tipping Creamery
Cow Tipping Creamery takes the ice cream eating experience to a completely new level. A simple glance at their Instagram feed will make you want to drop everything you are doing and drive over to their East Dallas location for one of their creative and irresistible frozen desserts.
Henry’s
There’s nothing quite like enjoying a scoop of creamy homemade ice cream. Perhaps you don’t have the time to create your own batch of this frosty treat. Luckily, Henry’s whips up their gourmet, all natural, homemade ice cream on a daily basis. Head on over to their Plano location and enjoy a pint, a scoop, or a cake made out of their mango, praline, chocolate-covered coffee bean, or banana ice cream to name a few. With so many flavors to choose from, you will definitely want to come back for more.
Kate Weiser Chocolate
Although Kate Weiser only serves ice cream on the weekends, the wait is definitely worth it. Choose a traditional flavor such as milk chocolate or chocolate chip, or try something a little more daring such as sunflower seed praline or pistachio. Whatever you choose, you definitely can’t go wrong here.
Carnival Barker’s
Carnival Barker’s, which originally opened up at Truck Yard, now has it’s own permanent place to call home. Head on over to their Oak Cliff location and try any of their tasty flavors. We recommend the Munchies, a combination of peanut butter-base ice cream and chocolate covered potato chips.
Hypnotic Emporium
Created by the founders of the famous Hypnotic Donuts, Hypnotic Emporium is the place to go to if you have a persistent sweet tooth. Candy from the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s can be found at this magical place. They also specialize in Pez, but most importantly, the proudly serve Beth Marie’s award winning homemade ice cream. Choose from malts, shakes, sundaes, or a scoop of ice cream served in their waffle cones made in house.
Remedy
Remedy is one of those places where you can walk in and immediately feel happy and carefree. Perhaps it’s the soothing green décor and natural sunlight, or perhaps it’s knowing that no matter what you choose from their menu it is sure to be a delight. Dive into the Barry White made of strawberry ice cream, champagne, poppy seed butter cake, white chocolate crumble, and whipped cream, or the Bob made of rich dark chocolate, crunchy potato chips, sweet caramel, sea salt, whipped cream, topped with a bing cherry.
Highland Park Soda Fountain
Highland Park Soda Fountain transports you back to your childhood, to a time where things were much simpler and you didn’t have to worry about things like bills. The 100-year-old establishment serves everything from pimento grilled cheese and chili hot dogs to goose liver. Make sure to wash down your savory meal with an old-fashioned ice cream soda or sundae, or one of their delicious milkshakes and malts.
Motor Sister’s
Inspired by Melt Ice Cream in Fort Worth and Rosie the Riveter, Motor Sister’s soft serve ice cream is a treat you will definitely want to indulge in this summer. They take the classic vanilla or chocolate ice cream cone and turn it up several notches by dipping it in toppings such as yellow cake crumbles, strawberry sauce, and crushed pretzels. Their sundaes are no joke either. The Vera Rubin mixes your choice of chocolate or vanilla ice cream with crushed wasabi bits, black sesame seeds, and layers of miso-butterscotch. No matter what you choose, it is sure to be a culinary adventure.
Coolhaus
Sometimes all you need is a mid afternoon pick-me-up and what better way to get your energy up while simultaneously cooling down than with a delicious ice cream sandwich. Coolhaus is a regular among the Klyde Warren Park food trucks and is sure to satisfy your ice cream and cookie craving. While they have over 40 flavors, only 8-10 are offered at a time. Be warned, this wonderful treat can be a bit messy to eat, so make sure to grab a couple of napkins. We wouldn’t want you to wander back into the office with chocolate drizzling down your face and hands.
Pokey O’s
There are many things Texan’s love, but perhaps one of the most iconic Lone Star State activities is indulging in Blue Bell Ice Cream during the hot summer months. At Pokey O’s you can choose from 15 Blue Bell Ice Cream flavors and 13 cookie flavors including maple pecan, white chocolate cranberry, and fudge nut brownie to create your own unique and yummy ice cream sandwich.
