We almost always recommend Rinnai tankless water heaters, for a variety of reasons.
But there are times a tank-type heater may be a better choice. First, consider how you use water at home.
The biggest demand for hot water is usually in the morning when a family is getting ready for work and school. You drain the tank, it fills back up, the heater turns on and is running full blast as you walk out the door.
You don’t need hot water then! Worse yet, the water cools and is re-heated in the tank several times each day, wasting energy and running up your utility bills.
| Waiting Too Long for Hot Water? No matter what type of water heater you have, tank or tankless, long plumbing runs from the water heater to the faucet will keep water from getting to you quickly.
The wait is annoying, and running good water down the drain is wasteful.
But Berkey’s can fix that with an ingenious product that taps into your existing system to deliver hot water in seconds, without wasting a drop. Get the details here.

Because tankless water heaters operate on demand – they run only when you open a hot water tap – you will never run out of hot water. The flame heats the water to a pre-set temperature as it passes through the tankless heater.
There are two situations in which we normally recommend a tank-type water heater. One is a financial consideration, the other a physical one.
Tankless water heaters cost much less to operate, but do cost more initially.
If you want short-term savings, a tank-type heater would be better.
Secondly, If the installation must us an electric heater instead of natural gas,
a tank-type heater would be a better choice. Electric tankless water heaters do not operate as efficiently as those that use natural gas.
