7/23/2010 Air Conditioning Refrigerant Changes Driving Up Service Costs Says Berkey’s
Sharp price increases for air conditioning refrigerant are catching many homeowners by surprise this summer as repairs come due on older equipment.

Tankless Water Heaters or Tank-Type – Which Is Best?

We almost always recommend Rinnai tankless water heaters, for a variety of reasons.
But there are times a tank-type heater may be a better choice. First, consider how you use water at home.

The biggest demand for hot water is usually in the morning when a family is getting ready for work and school. You drain the tank, it fills back up, the heater turns on and is running full blast as you walk out the door.

You don’t need hot water then! Worse yet, the water cools and is re-heated in the tank several times each day, wasting energy and running up your utility bills.

Rinnai Tankless Water Heaters Offer Many Advantages

  • Water heatersOperating costs up to 40% less
  • Endless supply – heats water as fast as it is used
  • No wasting energy be re-heating water over and over
  • Small size permits flexible installation options inside and out, as in the utility room shown at right
  • Longer service life – 20 years average
  • Most Rinnai units purchased in 2009 and 2010 qualify for 30 percent federal income tax credit, to a maximum of $1,500 credit\
  • Unlike many competitors’ products, Rinnai tankless water heaters are engineered to work with “looped” recirculating plumbing installations

Endless Supply of Hot Water

Waiting Too Long
for Hot Water?

No matter what type of water heater you have, tank or tankless, long plumbing runs from the water heater to the faucet will keep water from getting to you quickly.

The wait is annoying, and running good water down the drain is wasteful.

But Berkey’s can fix that with an ingenious product that taps into your existing system to deliver hot water in seconds, without wasting a drop. Get the details here.

Because tankless water heaters operate on demand – they run only when you open a hot water tap – you will never run out of hot water. The flame heats the water to a pre-set temperature as it passes through the tankless heater.

When a Tank-Type Water Heater Is the Right Call

There are two situations in which we normally recommend a tank-type water heater. One is a financial consideration, the other a physical one.

Tankless water heaters cost much less to operate, but do cost more initially.
If you want short-term savings, a tank-type heater would be better.

Secondly, If the installation must us an electric heater instead of natural gas,
a tank-type heater would be a better choice. Electric tankless water heaters do not operate as efficiently as those that use natural gas.
