Licensed Plumbers Only

When you invite us into your home you can rest assured that all of our plumbers are licensed by the State of Texas. That means not only does someone in Austin know where to find us if there’s a problem (which there won’t be).  Berkey's Licensed Plumbers only
Berkey’s licensed plumbers all pass rig-orous state exams.

It also is your assurance that Berkey’s associates have invested years in professional training and have passed rigorous tests administered by the state.

Licensed Tradesman plumbers must have at least two years of experience as an apprentice before they can take the state exam, and then nearly 80 percent fail it the first time.

Licensed Journeyman plumbers must have four years experience; about 65 percent fail that test the first time.

A licensed Master Plumber must have a minimum of six years in the profession, and must pass both written and practical exams.

Multiple Plumbing Codes

  • There’s more to that than may appear at first glance. Texas law provides for three separate plumbing codes, all of which our licensed plumbers must know and practice: Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), published by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, the

  • International Plumbing Code (IPC), published by the International Code Conference, and

  • "Excellent. Best service ever by a plumbing professional. Thanks" Dave Bales, Southlake, Texas
International Residential Code for One and Two Family Dwellings, published by the International Code Conference.

Municipalities in Texas have some latitude in which codes to follow, so it’s not at all unusual to find a plumber making an installation or repair a certain way one day, then doing it differently the next day a few miles down the road. On top of that, each jurisdiction can amend the code to meet local requirements.

No Place for Amateurs

What it comes down to is if you have plumbing done by an unlicensed handyman – who may or may not be a member of your family – you run the risk of having a job that doesn’t meet code.

You may get lucky and not have an immediate problem, but sooner or later it’s likely to come back to bite you, such as when you sell your home and have to make fast repairs to bring it into compliance.

All Legal Parts

Here’s something to keep in mind: most folks don’t know it, but the big box home stores can sell plumbing parts it would be illegal for a licensed plumber to use. Something as innocent appearing as the wrong size valve in a toilet could cause water to back up from the tank into your drinking water.

At Berkey’s, we use only parts that meet or exceed all code requirements. And we check for these types of problems every year when we inspect your home’s plumbing as part of our Universal Protection Plan.

We Know the Rules…

…for Southlake, Grapevine, Flower Mound, Colleyville and the rest of the Metroplex, so you can be assured of a job that meets code to the letter.

"Very professional & know-ledgeable! Your staff always makes me feel comfortable." Laura Waller, Keller, Texas

If your job requires a city permit, we’ll take care of that for you, as well as arranging for any required follow up inspections. We’re proud of the work we do, and we want you to have the assurance that comes with the third-party validation the cities provide.
