Efficiency Ratings Explained

Efficiency is calculated in terms of Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratios, or SEER, stated as numbers 10 through 18. The higher number, the more efficient the equipment.

For example, a 13 SEER air conditioner – the minimum efficiency level now made in the USA – is about 30 percent more efficient than older 10 SEER equipment. The higher the SEER rating, the more you save on energy bills.

Keep Efficiency High with Annual Tune Ups

Unfortunately, many air conditioning systems operate well below their rated values because they haven’t been maintained properly. We often find 10 SEER units (standard equipment for most homes built through 2005) operating at 6-to-8 SEER, or less.

Annual tune ups are vital to the health of your AC equipment. Southlake, Grapevine, Colleyville and Flower Mound are hot from early spring through late fall, which places heavy demands on your central air conditioning. Equipment that usually lasts 15 years or longer in the Midwest may last only half that time here.

Depending on your equipment’s age and condition, we may be able to restore it to factory specs with a few adjustments or by replacing a part or two. If it hasn’t been maintained well, repair bills will be higher and equipment life shorter.
